Gorgeous Day in Portland

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day in Portland. I’ve been just taking the MAX train around the city, and it’s pretty amazing. I had doughnuts from VooDoo doughnuts. I think Anthony Bourdain let me down there. The doughnuts themselves were good, but they didn’t have the maple bacon doughnuts and the froot loops on my other… Continue reading Gorgeous Day in Portland

Cable Car

DSCN0406 Originally uploaded by mikehillwig. This post is for Sam. When I got to San Francisco two days ago, I said that I’d never been on a cable car. When I leave San Francisco tomorrow, I will still be able to say that I’ve never been on a cable car. The cable car rides are… Continue reading Cable Car

Busy night…

One of the things I love about San Francisco is that I have a few good friends and a ton of memories here. One of the things I hate about San Francisco is the abundance of homeless people who will get in your face while trying to scam money from you. I had dinner at… Continue reading Busy night…

Busy Lazy Day

It’s been a fun morning. I’ve been busy and haven’t done a thing. I woke up and it was raining. I don’t recall ordering rain. Fortunately it has cleared up as the day has progressed. The worst part of the day is that I woke up at 6:00 because my body still thinks its on… Continue reading Busy Lazy Day

San Francisco

I’ve made it to my hotel in San Francisco. The flight was good, long, but good. There was surprisingly little fanfare in New York when we left.  The captain did mention that this was their inaugural flight. That all changed when we landed in San Francisco. We were met by firetrucks who saluted us by… Continue reading San Francisco

N559JB

The plane is called “Here’s Looking at Blue, Kid” and I’m at the gate, waiting for my flight. The plane just came in from Long Beach, and we should be ready to go. Airport security didn’t question my little cooler containing the lunch I packed. So what’s on the menu?   * Tomato basil pasta… Continue reading N559JB

Getting Closer

I talked to my boss this morning and now I’m taking Wednesday off as well. That means I’ll be burning 64 vacation hours. Tomorrow night, I’m meeting up with Beth and Paul to drop off Reggie. Oh, I’m going to miss the little shit. He’s been so good lately. Tonight, though, he’s not too happy… Continue reading Getting Closer

Oakland Highway Collapse

(link) Earlier today, I got a message from another Pug Villager asking me what airport I was flying into. He said that if I was flying into Oakland, it would take me quite some time to get into San Francisco from the airport.  Fortunately, I’m flying into San Francisco International, and that means my transportation… Continue reading Oakland Highway Collapse

Where Portland Eats

I did a quick Google search for “Portland eats” to see what I could find in terms of food. It led me to whereportlandeats.com. It looks like a good starting point to find some good eats in Portland. Citysearch also led me to Cheap Eats.

Trip Ideas

What do I want to do on this trip? I’ve been to San Francisco many times but never Portland. I have a week to fill and so far zero plans. Any suggestions?
