Gorgeous Day in Portland

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day in Portland. I’ve been just taking the MAX train around the city, and it’s pretty amazing.

I had doughnuts from VooDoo doughnuts. I think Anthony Bourdain let me down there. The doughnuts themselves were good, but they didn’t have the maple bacon doughnuts and the froot loops on my other doughnut were a bit stale. Still it was an interesting experience. Apizza Scholls will have to wait as they’re not open on Monday. Oddly, a lot of places seem to be closed on Monday.

The hotel I’m in is very dated and tired. Every room could be refurbished. It’s in a prime location and I’m surprised that nobody has invested in making it a more attractive property.

The one thing I’ve noticed here is the abundance of homeless or “street people.” They’re everywhere, and I’m sure the weather has something to do with that.

This appears to be an incredibly livable city. It’s a much smaller city than Boston, San Francisco, or even Seattle. Could I live here? Probably. Would I want to live here? Maybe. Just maybe.
