When I was in Germany a few years ago, I had met up with an online chat pal named Alex. He’s since been killed in a motorbike accident. One of my fondest moments of that trip was experiencing what the German’s call Spezi, which is basically a mix of Coca Cola and orange Fanta soda.… Continue reading Spezi

Independence Day 06
Today was fun. I went with Beth and Paul to Dave and Liz’s house. Dave and Rita were there, too. Much food was consumed. I totally gorged on Liz’s cilantro potato salad. It was incredible. My fruit crumble was good, although it was a bit… moist. Had I baked it today, it may not have… Continue reading Independence Day 06
Add peaches, subtract raspberries
I’m going to a cookout tomorrow, and I’m really looking forward to it. The basic premise is that you bring your own meat for the grill, your own beer/alcohol, and then something to share with the group. The meat is easy. The alcohol even easier. The hard part was what to bring for the group.… Continue reading Add peaches, subtract raspberries
Successful Crumble
The crumble turned out well. It wasn’t as sweet as I would have liked, but that can probably be attributed to the raspberries not being sweet. This is a good lesson on tasting your fruits before putting them in a dessert.
Fruit Crumble Recipe
After this morning’s haul at the Haymarket, I’m attempting another fruit crumble. It’s a bit warm to be baking, so Reggie and I camped out in the bedroom (AC running and door closed) while the oven is on. Today’s attempt is blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Sam wants me to cough up the recipe. Here we… Continue reading Fruit Crumble Recipe
Haymarket Haul
I was up about 6:15 this morning and my body just didn’t like the idea of going back to sleep. So I jumped in my car and went to the Haymarket. Driving was a really good move because I wouldn’t have been able to carry everything on the T. Today might have been the perfect… Continue reading Haymarket Haul
When Good Recipes Go Bad
I attempted to make myself a fruit crumble tonight, and it didn’t come out very well. In retrospect, I only used a half cup of flour instead of a full cup. That explains a lot of things. The fruit itself has a fantastic flavor with apples, blueberries and strawberries. It’s just the crumble that turned… Continue reading When Good Recipes Go Bad
Sunday Eats
This morning, I was watching Party Line with the Hearty Boys on the Food Network. They were making a tomato basil pasta salad that looked really good. Wouldn’t you know that yesterday I had bought fresh tomatos and basil. It was good, light, fresh, and tasty. Reggie was a little miffed that I wouldn’t share.… Continue reading Sunday Eats
Tomato Garlic Round Steak
I have a round steak left over from last night. It’s soaking in a bath of tomato juice, garlic, a little bit of olive oil, salt, and pepper. That will be good tomorrow night. Tonight is my first encounter trying to cool salmon.
Inside the Box
I went shopping today with Beth. She drove us around in her new Scion xB. It’s not a bad ride. Reggie stayed at her house and played with Buddy and Brutus. While at the grocery store, we ran into our friend Liz. I hadn’t seen her in almost a year. It was good to catch… Continue reading Inside the Box
