Better

I had a good day today. I was concerned about getting to work because of the drastic change in my commute. Let me draw a couple of comparisons.

First, I walked to the Swampscott commuter rail station instead of my normal ten minute drive to South Attleboro. I missed the train coming through at 6:40ish. If that happens in South Attleboro, I’m stuck for 45 to 60 minutes. How long did I wait this morning for the next one? 15 minutes. Yeah. On top of that, the train wasn’t even crowded. By the time my usual train hits Mansfield, it’s standing room only! I jumped on the orange line (because the green line, like Mr. Yuck, is bad) and took it to the south end. It really wasn’t a bad commute.

Coming home, it was just as good. I took the orange line to North Station to catch the train. North Station is calm and serene when compared to South Station, which is a zoo. (Southbound trains depart from South Station, and the northbound trains depart from North Station. That’s one of the few things that MassPort does that makes sense.) I was stunned to see a peak hour train that wasn’t standing room only. And all of these cars were single-level cars. I’m used to the double-decker ones. After a twenty-minute train ride (compared to my usual 55), I walked back to the house.

Very shortly, I’ll be taking the boys to the beach.

I know, my life really is miserable.
