Rebuilding

We got an e-mail at work today from the chairman, the guy who founded the company. Jim believes the the community has been good to him and his company, thus he needs to be good to the community. He told us that he personally went to the American Red Cross in Boston yesterday and told them that we’d be doing whatever we could to help out with the hurricane relief efforts. I work for a very large general contractor and we have an exhaustive network of subcontractors and suppliers.

Anyway, Jim is looking for skilled volunteers throughout the company to take part in the relief effort. It’s volunteer work, yet you still get paid. The conditions will be brutal, though. Unfortunately, that doesn’t include me. I’m not skilled in construction. All told, we will probably be donating several hundred thousand dollars in labor and construction management. We’re known for rapid turn-around in difficult environments.

It’s not a matter of if we’re going to help. It’s a matter of HOW we’re going to help.

It’s just one more reason why I fucking love my job.
